Water Efficiency

Water drops

Water conservation is the most cost-effective and environmentally sound way to reduce our demand for water. Using less water puts less pressure on our sewage treatment facilities and uses less energy for water heating. Using less hot water will save on energy bills.

There are many effective ways to promote water efficiency throughout your home.

Here are some of the many immediate ways to promote water efficiency:

  • Installing a tankless or on-demand water heater
  • Locating a water heater within 30 feet of the pipe run to all bathrooms and kitchen
  • Using Energy Star water-conserving appliances
  • Using water-efficient showerheads and sink faucets and conventional aerator or venture technology for flow rate
  • High-efficiency furnace or zoned radiant heat and/or a tankless water heater
  • Installing ultra low-flow toilets
  • Installing low-volume, non-spray irrigation systems zoned for turf and bedding areas and weather based irrigation controllers
  • Installing a rainwater harvesting system
  • Installing innovative wastewater technology
